WordsWorth Deluxe 2

WordsWorth is a stimulating game of intellectual exercise that improves memory, increases vocabulary, and trains the mind in the valuable skill of reverse thinking.

To Play:

Click one of the 24 category buttons.

A random definition from the associated category will appear in the top pane. The object of play is simply to come up with the answer word that fits the definition.

try word
Enter your Try Word in the space provided and then click the "Try Word" button (or press the “Enter” key on your keyboard). The display panel will indicate whether or not your Try Word is correct. If your try word is correct, the full definition and thesaurus entries will appear, with the active hint highlighted in blue.

In the same way that your muscles get stronger from the effort of lifting weight, your brain gets stronger from the effort of thinking. If you don't know the answer right away, take some time and make the effort of searching your memory. Make a genuine effort every time.

show me
The answer is probably buried in there somewhere. However, if you do get stumped, click the "Show Me" button for the answer. You will always be rewarded with an opportunity to learn something new.

The Display Panel:

main display
The Display panel displays a variety of messages related to the functions of play - not the least of which is to let you know when you have found the correct answer word.

Display Panel Messages:

correct
Occurs when the Try Word is correct.

try again
Occurs when the Try Word is not correct.

partial
Occurs when the Try Word is within the answer word but does not match the entire answer word. This can happen when the answer word is a compound word or a phase made up of two or more words.

no rhymes
Occurs when the “Rhyme” button is used and there are no words that rhyme with the answer word.

The Hints Panel:

hint panel
Thankfully - WordsWorth offers a number of hint functions to help you find the correct answer word.

rhyme
The “R” button will display words that rhyme with the answer word. This button will flash while it searches for a phonetic match. When the search is completed the display panel will indicate whether or not any rhyming words were found.

If rhymes are found the display panel will show the total number of rhyming words and the “R” button is highlighted. Click and hold the “R” button to display a rhyming word. Release the “R” button to return to the normal display. Repeat this action to display each rhyming word in sequence.

Thesaurus relationship types include Synonyms, Antonyms, Attributes, Causes, Derived, Entails, Parts, Part Of, Types, Type Of, Participle, See Also, and Similar.

If any part of the answer word appears in any of the thesaurus relationships it will be replaced with a series of question marks.

question
Sometimes you will see a series of question marks in the definition. This occurs when the definition itself contains the answer word. The question marks indicate the number of letters in the answer word, and its placement within the definition.

Level of Difficulty:

number of words
The "1", "2", "3", and "5", hint buttons will instruct WordsWorth to select words with a specified number of definitions. Only one of these buttons can be active at any given time.

The active button is highlighted. Click any button to enable the "Number of Definitions" feature. Click the active button to disable this feature.

"1" Displays words with 1 or 2 definitions.
"2" Displays words with 2 or 3 definitions.
"3" Displays words with 3 to 5 definitions.
